In The Declining West and a Multipolar New World Order, Nicholas Hagger set out the conflict between the declining West and the rising Eastern or ‘Eurasian’ New World Order that includes China, Russia, North Korea, Iran and the BRICS countries, which form over half of humankind.

Swerving a Third World War, its sequel, continues the story between May and October 2025. Hagger vividly narrates as they happen, with a new, fresh perspective that links day-to-events to this overriding theme: the initial split between the US and Europe caused by the American withdrawal from the funding of NATO and its withdrawal of its support for Ukraine; Trump’s bombing of Iran’s nuclear sites; the Trump-Putin summit in Alaska; the Chinese military parade; and the initial success of the 20-point Gaza Peace Plan. Hagger argues that the solution to the problem of supremacist war in both the West and the East is to swerve away from the pursuit of unipolar supremacy to a merging of the Western rules-based international old world order and the Eastern or ‘Eurasian’ New World Order of China, Russia and the BRICS countries into a World State that includes all the Great Powers: the US, the EU, Russia and China. This World State would have a democratic, presidential, partly-federal world government that would have sufficient authority to abolish war and enforce disarmament, and would bring in a new World Peace, a Pax Mundi: a Pax Universalis, a Universal (and Universalist) Peace. Both books are required reading for all interested in the future of the West and concerned at new threats from the East.
